Dan Brown’s best selling novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’ has caused a great amount of interest since it first hit the bookshelves in 2003 and with the immanent release of the blockbuster film starring Tom Hanks it is likely to go the same way.

The novel has an engaging story line that many (including myself) found they just couldn’t put down. It follows in real time the twists and turns of a couple on the run having been implicated in a murder of a curator at the Louvre in Paris.  The novel is part conspiracy, part chase, part murder mystery, part pulp thriller and is based around the secrets contained (so the writer believes) in Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of ‘The Last Supper’.

At the foundation of the book is Brown’s assertion that there has been a cover up since early years in the Christian church around the Divinity of Jesus, his relationship to Mary Magdalene and the continuation of Jesus’ bloodline through their marriage.  Brown states at the beginning of his book that this novel is based on historical facts and information and quotes a number of sources he has used to weave his novel around.

Whilst it makes for a very good read on holiday Christians would disagree with the authors claims that the book is based on historical fact, that there has been a cover up throughout history and would dispute his conclusions about the person of Jesus Christ.
